I am very excited because I have just discovered one of my favorite Web 2.0 tools to date! As I am beginning to move away from my action research project and starting to think "bigger" for my upcoming capstone project, I am finding myself really enjoying collaborative digital presentation tools. It is something that we have used a lot in our masters program, and a tool I think can really be beneficial in my classroom as well as other content areas.
The website I discovered today is called Storybird.com and it is phenomenal. In my class we are constantly creating stories together or I create ones for my students based on the vocabulary I want them to hear. Although I can create the stories fairly quickly, I am a horrible artist and have never been able to find cohesive pictures to give students images to look at while reading or discussing the story. This website solves my problem! You can choose a photo scheme and create pages using different photos offered. You can create a poem, a picture book with limited text, up to a multi-chapter novel. Once you have chosen your photos, you can write your own text next to the image.
This will be great for my own use when preparing stories for students, but I also plan to request the school purchase a subscription for my students as well as they could create so many wonderful projects in Spanish! This will allow them to be creative, use technology and demonstrate foreign language knowledge. I cannot wait to play more with this tool!
I have embedded a link to a public story that someone else has created and shared on the website.
