The past few weeks have been a whirlwind, at work and personally! I knew this craziness was coming so a few weekends ago I decided to lock myself in the house all day until I made a good dent in my movie pitch for my Innovative Learning program. At first, WeVideo confused me and I had NO idea where to begin. I struggled to simply upload content, let alone add visual affects, voiceovers, audio, etc. However, after a few good hours of playing with the site I found it to be very effective and pretty easy (Once I understood where to go!) It allowed me to produce something "creative" without having to truly create it all myself. I could choose music they provided, as well as backgrounds and transitions. Although I didn't create those things myself, I felt really proud of it and after incorporating my content it became my own. After creating my video I shared it with a few different people and got some wonderful feedback. A few things I needed to work out was: the length of the quotes (people needed more time to read!), lower the background music and include my own personal story and culminating thoughts. With these few changes I hope to have a wonderful finished project.
On another note, the movie helped me in a way I had never thought it would. It helped me connect with a challenging student in my class! This student struggles socially and finds it hard to connect with others, however he is an avid movie maker and would like to be a producer one day. Knowing this, I asked for his help and input, and he really helped me out. He taught me about B-roll and showed me how to set up my camera, what to look for and how to use it. It was wonderful to ask for help and learn from one of my students.
